Journey through Greece

Exploring Greece: A Journey Through Athens and Beyond

Greece has a way of capturing your heart the moment you arrive, and Athens is the perfect starting point for this adventure. The city pulses with history, where modern streets wind around ancient ruins, and every corner feels like a story waiting to be told. Walking up to the Acropolis and standing before the Parthenon is unforgettable—a tangible connection to a world that has stood for millennia. The view of Athens stretching out below the marbled columns is the kind of memory that lingers long after you leave.

One of the most unexpected joys of the trip was the food. Greek cuisine in Athens is a sensory journey—freshly baked spanakopita, tender souvlaki grilled to perfection, and vibrant salads bursting with local olive oil and feta. Even the simplest meals felt like celebrations of flavor and tradition. Dining in small tavernas tucked along narrow streets, the aroma of oregano and roasted lamb in the air, made every meal feel like an experience unto itself.

While Athens offered a perfect blend of history and flavor, Santorini remains on our horizon for the next adventure. Its whitewashed cliffs and sunsets over the caldera will be the dream we chase on our next journey. For now, the memories of Athens—its legendary sites and unforgettable food—are enough to remind us why Greece calls travelers back again and again.

QUICK NOTE:

If you’re planning a trip to Greece, it’s worth keeping in mind that December 6th can be a tense day in Athens. This date marks the anniversary of the 2008 police shooting of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos in the Exarcheia district, and it’s often observed with protests and occasional riots. On our recent visit, we were caught off guard by the sudden demonstrations—police and military were everywhere, and a wave of protesters moved through the city and metro stations before vanishing just as quickly. Within minutes, the square returned to its usual calm, leaving only the memory of a brief, surreal interruption.
